Joseph Davancens is a Los Angeles-based bassist and composer. Having spent time New York, Santa Cruz, Sacramento and L.A. being immersed in the worlds of Jazz, Contemporary Classical and Indie Rock, Joseph has developed unique voice as a composer and performer.
Born and raised in the foothills of Northern California, Joseph took a major leap of faith and moved to NYC to attend Manhattan School of Music, where he honed his skills as an improviser amongst luminous colleagues such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Obed Calvaire, and Aaron Parks. He later attended UC Santa Cruz to attain a Doctorate in Composition, studying with Larry Polansky. In 2022, he moved to Los Angeles and became involved in the fertile Jazz and improvised music community, playing shows as a bandleader at Healing Force of the Universe, the High Low, and Solarc.
Joseph also plays in the bands Doombird and Best Move, two projects founded with his best friend and musical partner Kris Anaya. Together they have produced 8 releases. They are currently searching a label to release their upcoming album as Best Move, Try Looking Ahead.
